(VISHAKA COMMITTEE)

Mahendra College of Engineering is committed to provide the effective enforcement of the basic human right of gender equality and guarantee against sexual harassment and abuse, more particularly against sexual harassment at work places, As per UGC guidelines, the committee has established permanent cell and to develop guidelines to combat sexual harassment, violence against women and ragging at the college. Keeping the above guidelines Mahendra College of Engineering has constituted a Committee against Sexual Harassment

The Objectives of the committee is to:

  • To develop guidelines and norms for policies against sexual harassment.
  • To work out details for the implementation of these policies.
  • To prepare a detailed plan of actions, both short and long term.
  • To organize gender sensitization awareness programme.
  • To deal with cases of discrimination and sexual harassment in a time bound manner, aiming to ensure support services to the victimized.

Minutes of the Meeting of the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) on Sexual Harassment held on 25.11.2021  at 2.30 PM in Mahendra College of Engineering Seminar Hall
  • At the outset, Dr. N Mohana Sundara Raju, Chairman of ICC welcomed all the members of the ICC and all participants of the Meeting.
  • He explained the purpose of the meeting was to ensure implementation of guidelines and objectives of the SHPC too.
  • The Chairman of ICC also emphasized that (i) “Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act and Rule 2013”, (ii) Constitution of the Committee, and (iii) details of the Members of the Complaints Committee such as name, phone number, address etc.,
  • A presentation on all the applicable guidelines and rules on the issue was made by the Chairman of ICC. . He said, sexual harassment is against the law. Some types of sexual harassment may also be offences under criminal law and should be reported to the police, including indecent exposure, stalking, sexual assault and obscene or threatening communications, such as phone calls, letters, emails, text messages and postings on social networking sites.
  • At this point Dr.M.Suganthi, Member Secretary of ICC shared her experience by adding volunteers and unpaid workers have the same rights and responsibilities in relation to sexual harassment as paid staff. She stressed the need for making the working environment more conducive to the women as their percentage of representation, though low at this stage, is likely to rise in the coming years.
  • Students informed that they do not have any Issues.
  • Member Secretary asked the students to make active participation in all the events organized by Women Empowerment Cell (WEC).
  • She motivated the students to do Yoga, meditation, exercise and to have healthy food habits to maintain their health. Student participants are insisted to pass the meeting context with other students.
  • The Chairman expressed his thanks to all participants and the members agreed that the Committee will meet every half yearly a regular basis or earlier, if need be.  
  • The meeting ended with vote of thanks to the Chair.
